Gotham Avenue School’s Third and Fourth Graders Explore Coding and AI Through Global Hour of AI

Throughout December, Gotham Avenue School’s third and fourth grade scholars explored the exciting world of technology through the global Hour of AI initiative, formerly known as the Hour of Code. Designed to spark curiosity and build confidence, this initiative empowers young learners to become creative problem-solvers by making coding and artificial intelligence accessible and engaging.
During their library sessions with Mr. McBane, students were introduced to foundational coding and AI concepts through hands-on activities.
Third graders participated in a variety of coding-based games and challenges using Code.org and strengthened their block-coding skills with the district-provided app, Box Island. Fourth graders took their learning a step further by focusing on artificial intelligence, playing the interactive Two Truths and AI digital literacy game and training an AI robot to identify information on Code.org. These activities aim to help develop future-ready skills in coding, critical thinking and AI literacy.
Upon successfully completing the activities, the scholars received certificates recognizing their participation in this globally renowned program. By participating in the Hour of AI, the scholars are developing future-ready skills in coding, critical thinking and AI literacy.
