As part of the Elmont Union Free School District’s efforts to seek additional funding and revenue sources outside of its community taxpayers, the district is pleased to share a multi-year funding agreement that will benefit the Elmont school community and its children for decades.

With the Belmont Park Redevelopment Civic and Land Use Improvement Project’s utilization of land within the district’s boundaries and the removal of this land from existing tax rolls, the Board of Education worked to develop a plan that ensured there would be no negative financial impact for its students and community. As a result of their work, the initial funding of $2.4 million received by the district is earmarked for security enhancements through the purchase and installation of security doors in classrooms, districtwide. Additionally, these funds will be used to lower the tax impact on Elmont residents during the 2024-2025 budget process. Additional funds will be determined annually, for the duration of the 49-year agreement.

“The funding agreement between the district and the New York State Urban Development Corporation is a wonderful opportunity for Elmont,” Board of Education President Nancy Garlick said. “The positive impact this will have on our students, staff and community is immeasurable. On behalf of the entire district, I extend our sincere appreciation to Michael Jaime for his efforts in making this a reality for our community and ensuring a brighter future for our students while he was president of the board.”

Added Board of Education Trustee Michael A. Jaime, “Together, we are investing not just in our schools but in the promise of a better future for every Elmont student. It's a testament to our collective commitment to education, and I am proud to have been part of a team dedicated to ensuring that every child has the resources they need to thrive.”
