The auditorium at Clara H. Carlson School was buzzing with excitement as families, faculty and board members eagerly awaited the annual Winter Concert Celebration at the Elmont Board of Education meeting on December 10.
This yearly tradition is a special night, as the All-District Chorus features approximately 100 sixth graders from all six buildings. Remarkably, the students only rehearsed together as a group once before putting on the showstopping performance.
To the festive sound of jingling bells, the students started the concert by singing about the fun of winter in “Let’s Take a Sleigh Ride.” The second selection, “December Nights,” treated the audience to a song about the various celebrations honored throughout the month. The Winter Concert Celebration concluded with an energetic rendition of the classic holiday tune, “Feliz Navidad.”
“You’ve warmed our hearts in getting us ready for the holiday season. Thank you for a job well done,” Superintendent of Schools Marlon Small said to the students.
The performances were made possible due to the dedication of the district’s music staff: Ginta Bukauskas at Alden Terrace School, Daniell Dorsainvill at Clara H. Carlson School, Sheryl Turk at Covert Avenue School, Emily Stark at Dutch Broadway School, Anthony Pino at Gotham Avenue School and Aidan Timko from Stewart Manor School.
