To celebrate the many cultures and traditions of its scholars, Covert Avenue School hosted its 13th annual Cultural Diversity Day on January 23.

Scholars from pre-K through sixth grade were encouraged to wear the unique attire representing their cultures, which they showed off with pride during a vibrant parade throughout the hallways.

In the afternoon, students took to the stage to represent cultures throughout the building through song and dance. The assembly began with pre-K scholars singing, “Hello to All the Children.” Students in grades 3-6 then showcased Latin American, Punjabi and African Zulu cultures through group and individual dances.

The performing students were part of the Cultural Diversity Club, led by teachers Rachel Felix and Corinne Joyce. They met for six weeks of rehearsals to prepare for the event.

Cultural Diversity Day is hosted yearly in January to coincide with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and to share his message of acceptance and kindness.
